Marcus, Iowa – Hazel M. Wulf, 72, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus. Rev. Liz Pfeifle will officiate. Burial will follow at Marcus – Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present from 6-7 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Friday.
Hazel Margaret Wulf was born on April 12, 1939 in Margate City, Kent, England, the daughter of William Walter George and Eleanor Gwyn (Edwards) Sutton. She received her education in England. She later took a position at Woolworth's Department Store.
On June 6, 1957 Hazel and Henry Bruce Wulf were united in marriage in Margate City. When Henry finished with the Air Force on April 15, 1958, he and Hazel moved to the United States. They moved to Marcus, Iowa on April 1, 1960. On their 50th wedding anniversary Hazel and Henry returned to the church they were married in to renew their vows. Hazel operated Rascal's Retreat, a daycare she had in their home for seventeen years.
Hazel was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa. She served as president of the church council and was active in Ladies' Aid. Hazel enjoyed visiting and socializing. She spent her spare time working on arts and crafts projects using wood, ceramics and paintings. She sold her decorated ceramic eggs and used the proceeds to fund World Relief projects.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Henry Wulf of Marcus, IA; a son, Wayne Wulf of Marcus, IA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
